Shijie TM-5 Superstratocaster - David's Journey

I don’t usually write product reviews, but I feel this had to be said, and would help other guitarist discover an insanely good guitar company.

I was in the market for a superstrat style guitar, and after hours of research, watching video reviews and scrolling through guitar forums, I found my best sounding and playing guitar. After putting in an order, Shijie then proceeded to build the guitar, rather than being “mass produced”. It took about a week to build, and it was worth the wait. I scanned every cm/inch of the guitar and could not find a single flaw or mild “annoyance”. Having owned several guitars, this was the first time this has happened. The luthiers at Shijie know what they are doing. Here’s a summary of what I’ve concluded:

Tuners- Shijie’s in-house locking tuners. High quality materials, very solid.

Nut – Cut perfectly

Neck – Very comfortable and fast. Slim and easy to shred on, not overly thin like some superstrats that make it uncomfortable to play chords.

Frets- I requested Shijie to upgrade to stainless steel frets at an extra cost. This was reasonable as the guitar is already priced very fairly compared to the competition. The frets are smooth when you rub your hand up and down the neck, no sharp fret ends. Upon close inspection, you can tell the luthiers at Shijie take their time to install and sand the frets very well. This can be seen in their factory tour video on their Youtube channel.

Pickups- Perfectly spec’d for a superstrat. Bright and articulate even under heavy gain, cleans up very well. Split coils are very usable and sound great.

Trem system – Shijie’s inhouse bridge is very stable, I could do EVH style divebombs and it still stays in tune- was shocked. This is probably the combination of the locking tuners and perfectly cut nut working together in harmony.

Other thoughts – Came setup perfectly, shielding in the control cavity – how many companies still bother to do this? Brass trem block. Finish (Quilted Violet) is beautiful and unique. Guitar is lightweight, yet no neckdive.

I read on their website that Shijie founder Alex Wong inspects every guitar before they leave the factory. Can confirm I have his signature on the quality check sheet, in addition to 2 other employees. Feel comfortable buying online knowing this kind of pride in their craftsmanship and degree of quality checking. Well done Shijie! Guitar was delivered Friday afternoon. I couldn't be more pleased with every aspect of it: frets are perfect, the neck feels terrific, the spec is all high end and complements the meticulous attention to detail that has gone into its construction. All this, of course, goes into making a guitar that sounds great, and this one does. Good on Shijie for setting a new benchmark. 20/01/2024.

I've played my Shijie TLV - Pro 22 for a few days now and must say its a great guitar. The nut is perfectly cut. That's the first thing I normally check when I receive any guitar I buy. The small perfection makes a great difference to the play ability of the guitar. Most guitars I buy have this issue and need my luthier to re-cut the nut. The satin finish on the back makes great playing. Also the flywheel trust rod adjuster is great when I change strings to 9-42. This is my first guitar with a roasted maple neck and must say you can feel the vibration of the guitar on the neck and it’s so sensitive to the intensity you play. Produces a significant difference to the tone compared to a non-roasted neck. I love the C shape neck, gives enough palm support and great if you play fast. Most of my guitars have large C shape necks as I'm not a fast player but this one is great.

The relic job is very good, just right and not overly done, love it. Pickups are great, high-quality sound. Nothing to change. I may change the pickup selector to 4 ways (include series mode). Maybe Shijie can include this in their future models. Not sure if the guitar comes with treble bleed circuit but when cutting volume down, the treble sounds are not affected. You could suggest to Shijie to include treble bleed circuit. Shijie locking tuners are OK, they hold tuning well. I would have liked it to be tighter turns when tuning, it's a bit light for me, but this is personal choice. The soft case is good quality, gives very good protection. I made a good choice for the soft case.

Overall, a great guitar, as good as any high-end guitar make. I rate it on par with custom shop Fender Telecasters

I have already sent thru my first review some time go but after playing for some months I just had to update. To update this, I would like to say I am very happy with the guitar, as it was all I had expected after much research on the product. The Shijie Company is to be congratulated for making such great guitar at such an affordable price if I buy a tele type guitar it will definitely be a Shijie as well. Keep up the good work bringing these guitars to Australia Regards Don.

Guitar is outstanding. It is custom shop quality. I love the roasted maple neck with the stainless steel frets Plays as good if not better than any Fender I own. Pickups sound great. would not hesitate buying another Shijie David.

Fantastic build quality and attention to detail on this guitar. Does have a slightly more modern sound than some Fender players may desire. With the stainless frets and great sound, it is definitely a bang for bucks’ guitar.

Purchased my 'Shell Pink' STE Pro with some reasonably high expectations given what I'd already heard from Braun and McNight on YouTube. In the flesh this thing is truly an amazing piece of workmanship, especially at this price. Build quality and materials are the best I've seen other than some $3-4k custom builds, and I have a PRS CE24 (USA) and an Ernie Ball -Musicman 'Silhouette Special' (also USA)to compare with. This guitar equals them on every level ,and the more I play it, the more I'm thinking it will surpass them as my 'go to' axe. It's extremely versatile and usable across many different genres. 'Countryworx' staff were also second to none with their service and communication. Superb job by the luthiers at Shijie, and likewise the guys at 'Countryworx'.
